At Harvard Square newcomer TisTiK (54 Church Street, Cambridge, 617.661.0900), the name says it all. TisTiK, which means “a warm welcome to you” in the Mayan language, is an intimate boutique offering a unique collection of silver and wooden artisan jewelry, picture frames, glassware, and handbags. While the store itself is locally owned by Perla G. Brito Cuevas, all of the handcrafted goodies are created by artists in developing countries who work independently or partner with do-gooder organizations that help them sell their work. If you want a little karmic boost, snag a bold handbag made of recycled candy wrappers by inmates at a Mexico prison, or opt for a set of silver bangles from Mexican jewelry designer and teacher Estela Corona. Their names aren’t those you’ll typically see splashed across shopping bags in the city, but TisTiK’s designers deserve a very warm welcome.
