HOT WAY TO IGNORE THE OBESITY EPIDEMIC: The KFC Double Down

Maybe KFC (168 Hampshire Street, Cambridge, 617.547.8615) thought creating a sandwich with fried chicken in lieu of bread would ease the pangs of the recession, but it certainly won't be helping anyone's chances of survival. With two pieces of fried chicken and 1380 grams of sodium, the sandwich flies in the face of those like Michelle Obama and Jamie Oliver who are trying to make America healthier. It has stirred the ire of doctors, nutritionists, and, presumably, chickens. The Double Down also comes at a time when studies increasingly link rampant meat consumption to climate change, and in case there's not enough animal product in there for you, the Colonel also threw in two pieces of bacon and two kinds of cheese (both with "jack" in their names). There's just something perverse about a chicken sandwich served on bread made out of chicken. As far as we're concerned, Double Down refers to the position of our thumbs in judging it.
