Social Scribe blogs the Bruins Foundation Gala

Sarah Palin would have been right at home. A Caribou Barbie convention? Nope, the annual Bruins Foundation Gala — hockey moms rejoice! The Bruins bash was held at the Hard Rock this year for a night teeming with tasty treats, Bruins teammates, and tasteless fashion selections — just the type of scene Social Scribe eats up with a spoon.

We arrived for the VIP cocktail hour (before the masses herded in ... Social Scribe doesn’t do lines). The place was crawling with Bruins legends; we bumped into Ray Bourque immediately upon arriving — we’re sure part-owner Ray had nothing to do with Tresca being one of the on-site foodie sponsors. Small world!

Fellow Bruins vets Cam Neely and Bob Sweeney were meandering around the venue to the delight of all the team’s superfans. (Sweeney even attempted to sign our cocktail napkin at one point. Calm down, Bob.) We spied Reebok International pooh-bah Paul Foster chatting up party gadfly Wioletta Zywina, who was again hawking her Da Vinci Ristorante.

And how could we not spot Kennedy Elsey, the new morning-show yacker at Mix 98.5? That one has got to get off the bottle. Not of the alchy variety — the hair-dye variety. Take our advice, Kennedy: the color magenta only belongs in a Crayola crayon box, not in a hair style.

Voice of the Bruins and newly minted WBZ-TV host Kelly Malone arrived sans scrumptious fiancé, which left her free to chat up all the Bruins cuties! Now, Social Scribe is the first to admit that we don’t know a thing about hockey. But with megahotties like Blake Wheeler, Milan Lucic, and Patrice Bergeron on the roster, perhaps some pucking could pique our interest after all.

Mayor Menino even dropped by and was greeted by Bruins bigwig Charlie Jacobs. Maybe the mayor needed to drown his sorrows after trailing Councilor Michael Flaherty in the Dorchester Reporter mayoral poll.

As the general-admittance crowd flowed through the doors, we noticed the fashion faux pas of the night: white jeans. White jeans may be coming back, but not when you look like you’re preparing for a flood watch.  Get your inseam measured properly, people!
