Social Scribe is all about hyperbole, but dubbing your event “The Greatest Party on Earth” sets the bar mighty high. A pre-Earth Day bash, the fourth annual installment of the Greatest Party on Earth was thrown April 18 at its yearly venue, the Artists for Humanity Epicenter. The South Boston locale has housed some of the most high-profile A-List bashes in town — we crossed our fingers this one wouldn’t disappoint.
Arriving fashionably late, we were greeted at the outset by Tree People. Cast members from The Lord of the Rings perhaps? Unfortunately not. In full costume, the Tree People silently begged us enter the already packed party site, so we swiped our VIP bracelets and got the evening underway. We immediately spotted renowned photog Bill Brett snapping pics of party guests as he made his way around the expansive space.
The appearances of many of the party guests in attendance, however, ranged from the eccentric to the absurd. We spotted one guest wearing so many different plaid patterns that it looked like he was moving toward us (optical illusions in fashion are meant to mask imperfections, not cause motion sickness!).
We soon ran into CinSummer.com’s fab fashionista Christan Summers, who was fresh off a trip to Thailand (with tan lines to prove it!). We then scooped up some cocktails while watching the sky-high acts of a Cirque de Soleil-esque performing duo who descended from the ceiling, contorting and entertaining while suspended from dangling cloth (with no safety mat to boot!).
Our next stop was at the food stations: a girl’s gotta eat! We tried out the seared lamb loin from L’Espalier, but what was more incredible than the tender lamb was the sight of owner and executive chef Frank McClelland busing his own tables and doling out his own creations. Now that’s the hands-on type of chef we like to see in this town — thanks for getting your hands dirty, Frank!
Another sight to see was the bevy of young boys accompanying commercial real estate czar Robert Beal throughout the night. I suppose we can give the May-December dynamic a pass in this case, considering Beal has been one of the major sponsors of the event for the past four years. Thanks for the cocktails!
The event was all to highlight the tremendous work the Epicenter does for teen artists in the community — supporting their crafts and their dreams. We took a break from our binging to check out the art produced by the proud prodigies. Ending the evening on a philanthropic note always makes the next day’s hangover seem that much more justified.
