I want to see pinpoint accuracy, bold and daring moves, and the occasional 15-car pile up in turn two. Last night’s Drea Designs Couture runway show at Vinalia was all that and more. After climbing out from under the hang over I produced the night before (thanks FB and 33!), I pulled it together and headed off to Downtown Crossing to take in a show I’ll admit I new little about going in. I arrived at the scene and made my way upstairs where I found a young, hipster jazz trio satisfying the crowd as they milled about trying to determine what seats, if any, were available along side the sizable runway. Big points to the producers of the well attended show who partnered with the Make A Wish Foundation raising money with reserved front row seating. Giving will always be fashionable in my book.
As I often do in these situations, I took my place in the back, against a wall, with a great view of both the show and the interesting people attending it. Simply put, the looks on stage were just as inspired and entertaining (not always in a flattering way) as the looks that were off. Built on a foundation of elegant yet bold Asian robes, the full collection was a parade of big hits and occasional big misses that at times to me felt disjointed. Feather trimmed gowns and bathing suits (yes bathing suits) followed gingham and squinted tulle leaving me literally searching for a common thread.
Overall I liked more than I disliked, and loved more than I hated so I’m happy to report it was a good time.

Erica talks Summer Fashion on WFNX

Editorial Director
