Change is in the air on one of our favorite thoroughfares: two Lansdowne Street icons - the Embassy and the Modern - have been revamped into the Quarter and Rocket (36 Lansdowne Street, Boston, 617.536.2100), respectively. Thanks to a few coats of paint and a little rearranging - plus new carpeting, upholstery, and lighting - the two spaces, which opened late last month, are looking to appeal to a more casual bar crowd. The Quarter channels a beads-wearing, confetti-tossing New Orleans Mardi Gras; it also features the Male Encounter revue on Saturday nights and hopes to become a bachelorette-party go-to. Rocket, a smaller, lounge-style venue, puts the focus on rock 'n' roll. With its airy windows, which open onto the street, it's perfect before and after Sox games or concerts at nearby Avalon. Both clubs will be booking cover bands and DJs, so stay tuned.
