SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
Whether you were the guy strumming the acoustic guitar in his dorm room or the girl he wooed with the first few bars of a James Taylor tune, you'll want to be in attendance at the 10th annual Boston Folk Festival, held at the UMass Boston Campus (100 Morrissey Boulevard, Boston). From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., catch performances from dozens of the genre's greats - including Ellis Paul, Patty Larkin, Antje Duvekot, Chris Trapper, and Lori McKenna - on three stages. But it's not just about the music. In addition to the festival's crafts bazaar and international food court, there's a charity component, too: non-perishable food donations will benefit the Pine Street Inn, and reps from the South Boston Boys & Girls Club will be collecting children's books to help jump-start a new library. Die-hards can catch the festival's Songwriting Contest finals on September 15 at 6 p.m.; judges Catie Curtis and Mark Erelli will be presiding and performing. For tickets, ($20 for the finals; $30 for the festival; $40 for both), visit www.bostonfolkfestival.org or call 617.287.6911.
