For Bargument's sake

We’re out so much that, after a while, the requisite bar chatter (“Who’s he here with?”, “What is she wearing?”, “Check out the ass on that one!”) tends to get old. But that was only until we got our hands on a copy of Barguments (Simon Spotlight Entertainment, 2008; $9.99) by Doug Hanks. How does one define a “bargument,” exactly? Hanks says it’s “a debate with no right or wrong answer that must be uncomplicated enough to discuss after three beers.” The barguments in the book are essentially conversation-starting questions that delve into the important issues of our time — including “If you had to sleep with every member of a band, which group would get lucky?” and “In your dream kitchen, would you rather have a beer tap or a Slurpee machine?” — and elicit some of the best drunken discussions we’ve ever had. Pick up a copy at Barnes & Noble (Prudential Center, 800 Boylston Street, Boston, 617.247.6959).
