You know the rule: always listen to your politicians, especially ones who employ Irish wit, and even song, while they sound off on war and security threats. Okay, so “rule” is a strong word, but we can pretty much guarantee that when you hear Tip O’Neill — rather, Emmy Award winner Ken Howard portraying the former Speaker of the House, a Cambridge native son — talking about Vietnam and Soviet threats, you’ll be all ears. Howard steps up to the podium and into the spotlight in According to Tip, a world premiere by Dick Flavin presented by New Repertory Theatre (Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, 617.923.8487).
