Things are so complicated. There are all sorts of conflicting messages on how to live green, and we fear that someone in the White House is going to have to press the red button in the black of night. We yearn for simpler times when it was all yellow, as Chris Martin, front man for Coldplay, once declared. Since then we’ve watched as the Brit rockers hurtled to stratospheric heights of fame with their debut album, then replicated the recipe — anthemic arrangements, atmospheric hooks, sweeping melodies — in subsequent releases. Then we saw music scribes turn a cynical eye, so Martin and Co. took a cue from Bono and tapped Brian Eno to produce their new album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, and put a different spin on their sound. No, Martin’s voice hasn’t gotten deeper, but the songs are more textured and sonically complex. See for yourself when they step on stage tonight at the TD Banknorth Garden (100 Legends Way, Boston). Santogold opens. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and doors are at 6:30. Tickets are $47 to $95; visit www.livenation.com.
