With gas prices still surging over $4 a gallon with no sign of stopping, we’re getting miiiighty sick of carpooling with Todd from accounting and his greasy takeout breakfasts. We never thought we’d say it, but the ol’ MBTA is looking pretty damn good right about now. Sure, it’s a bit more packed of late, but conditions are slowly but surely improving. The Silver Line still feels new to us, and we can’t ignore the much-lauded new Blue Line cars or the visible progress at Green Line stations including Arlington and Kenmore. Commuter boats launched wireless Internet services earlier this summer, and lately we’ve been able to get cell phone reception at a number of underground T stops — a blessing or a curse, depending on your vantage point.
