Give “tupperware party” new meaning with these retro recycled lamps
Local designer Frank Criscione has a penchant for plastic containers. “I just really love Tupperware,” says Criscione, a senior industrial design student at MassArt. “I have a fascination with the ’70s. My mom had this really great late’ 70s kitchen when I was growing up, so it’s really nostalgic to me.”
Criscione’s Tupperware collection (in groovy hues like oranges, browns, olive green, and light blue) transitioned from holders of leftovers to overhead lamps after the 35-year-old Jamaica Plain resident made a lamp out of a metal colander he found on the street and realized he could do the same with plastic. After about a year of scouring eBay for pieces to supplement his own collection, Criscione turned his favorite JELLO molds, colanders, and canisters into funky and functional Tuppalamps.
