Like most of us, Ariel Pink spent his childhood making mix tapes. Unlike most of us, one of his tapes landed in the hands of Brooklyn’s art-rock savants, Animal Collective, at a club in LA, his hometown. They signed him on their label, and he’s been cranking out albums at a breakneck pace ever since. Notoriously reclusive, he records as Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, creating frenetic audio pastiches with snippets of commercial jingles and other throw-back instrumentations. A small synthesizer and eight-tracks are among his noise toys, which give his music the scratchy, antique sound of mash-up circa 1972. He has come out of seclusion for a spring tour, which he’ll be punctuating with an appearance at Coachella. He’ll mix it up tonight at T.T. the Bear’s Place (10 Brookline Street, Cambridge, 617.492.2327).
