Boston has earned some serious bragging rights. We’re the only city in North America to merit a stopover on the Volvo Ocean Race, the competition known as the “Everest of sailing” that spans nine months, 10 countries, and a staggering 37,000 nautical miles. From April 25 through May 16, Fan Pier will be transformed into a Racing Village where the competing fleet will take shelter and the city will get entertained at a slew of events and performances. The epicenter of all this activity? Puma City — a design snob’s dream, a case of form following function in the extreme. The 11,000-square-foot portable building is crafted from 24 steel shipping containers, which will be disassembled and shipped from one port on the race route to the next. Find Puma sailing and sports gear and apparel for sale on the first two floors, and on the third, a wide-open terrace that will serve as a bar, lounge, and event space for some of this season’s hottest parties. Great shopping, an unbeatable view, avant-garde architecture, and a hot nightlife scene? We’re definitely fans.
