Friday nights in Boston just got a whole lot swankier.
Aussie DJ, entertainment and events guru, and MIT Sloan School MBA student
Joshua van Aalst is bringing his special brand of Down Under nightlife savvy to
the Alley with his recently launched weekly dance night, Red
Velvet. Van Aalst spent several years producing high-volume,
high-concept club nights in the Sydney area (think 2500 people dancing the
night away in an indoor “jungle” crawling with vines). Now planted in Boston
until he finishes his degree next year, he’s transforming Suite
(1 Boylston Place, Boston, 617.351.7000) into a posh ’n’ saucy dreamscape
enhanced by a thumping soundtrack of house, trance, hip-hop, and lounge beats
every Friday night. There’s no cover before 11 p.m., and entry is $10 for the
fashionably late. Dress to impress — you’ll want to look like you belong behind
