We know Americans have had their differences with the French
(freedom fries, anyone?), but let’s admit it: the French know how to party,
especially when it comes to Bastille Day. After all, any holiday that revolves
around storming a prison has got to be good time. To celebrate, Harvard Square will
host an old-school Bastille Day festival, complete with street
vendors and performers, dancing to live music and a DJ, and traditional French
waiter races. We’re not quite sure what that last part means either, but a wine
and beer garden will be on hand, so we don’t really mind. The all-day affair on
Holyoke Street runs from 3 p.m. until 1 a.m. and is free and open to the
public. It’s sponsored by the Harvard Business Association and
Sandrine’s Bistro (8 Holyoke Street, Cambridge, 617.497.5300), which
will be offering a $25 prix fixe lunch and dinner menu all week long. Adopting
a fake accent and indulging in a few too many crepes is strongly encouraged.
