Dancing on the Charles

You could spend your Fourth of July craning your neck to get a glimpse of the fireworks at the Esplanade and then fighting the crowd of drunk 17-year-olds to claim your spot on the T for the long, sweaty ride home. Yeah, you could. Or, you could gather your friends and head to a 12-hour riverside dance fest that’s been hailed as one of the country’s top outdoor parties by URB magazine. Dancing on the Charles (Marsh Post 442, American Legion, 4 Gerry’s Landing, Cambridge) is back for a third year of top-notch DJs, tasty BBQ, and cheap drinks in the great outdoors. The cover is just $20 (cash only) for a bash that lasts from 1 p.m. until 1 a.m. — or until you decide that dancing drunk by the river might lead to some bad decisions if you don’t call it a night. Part of the proceeds will support the American Legion Marsh Post, where the event is held, as well as an organization working to clean up the Charles River. Produced by local DJ luminaries Soul Clap and Marz Entertainment, this marathon dance party promises to be a raucous good time. So head across the river this Independence Day to celebrate your freedom to dance!
