Faces on Film at T.T. the Bear's Place
Wednesday, July 29
The Veils is a moody mod-meets-metal band from
London with a lead singer that takes his cues from Robert Plant, a la Houses
of the Holy. Foreign Born is an rock
quartet from LA (ironic, huh?) that crafts almost-pop gems that incorporate
country guitar strumming and galloping drumbeats into gauzy psych rock. But our
main reason for heading to T.T. the Bear’s Place (10
Brookline Street, Cambridge, 617.492.2327) tonight is to see local hotshots Faces
on Film open the show. Their music, written and, for the most part,
sung by Mike Fiore, balances the dark, folksy intimacy of Nick Drake or Elliott
Smith with the anthemic songwriting of Coldplay or Radiohead and the
wrap-you-up-and-hold-on-tight loping melodies that bring Animal Collective to
mind. The Film rolls at 9 p.m. For tickets ($10), stop by the box office or
