A golden opportunity

Remember when September was full of possibilities? A yummy Spanish teacher to stare at (muy caliente!), your Saved by the Bell lunch box, and a brand-new Trapper Keeper helped add a little excitement to the back-to-school season. Now, Dutch design studio OOOMS is trying its best to recapture that magic for corporate drones and weary grad students alike with its 14 karat gold–plated staples. (Go ahead, read it again. We did too.) They’re meant as a form of jewelry that you apply to a lapel, denim, whatever, using a standard stapler. At 140 euro (about $200) per set, they’re a little steep for office supplies, but Guido Ooms, one of the studio heads, says, “The overly bland corporate environment can use any boost it can get.” He’s got a point, especially since HR banned intra-office dating and there’s not a cute Spanish teacher in sight. We also expect fashionistas across the globe will use the handy-dandy staples to quickly fix fallen hemlines or other fashion emergencies — office-supply shopping has never been so chic. Visit www.oooms.nl for more info.
