... at South End Open Studios

GEORGE SCHAROUN
New Media Specialist at the Museum of Fine Arts
We chased him down the street (seriously) because how
often do you see a man so well put together on a Friday evening?
He was channeling another time in a
hand-me-down suit and a thrift-store hat.
He has never had to describe his style before, but
he does wish people dressed up more.
He’s interested in the ’30s and ’40s, but as
far as influences go, he “doesn’t want to reduce it down.”
His must-have fall item: a black overcoat
He can’t live without dress shoes.

JESSICA FINCH
Art Coordinator at the Children's Hospital Boston
We chatted her up because her ability to mix
neutrals and blacks was anything but boring.
She was looking pretty in an H&M top, a
Calvin Klein skirt from Second Time Around, and Aerosoles shoes (nice!).
Lipstick can be a statement accessory too: the
color is Mango Mambo, “some kind of CVS brand I’ve been wearing for three or
four years.”
She can be found shopping around town at second-hand
stores, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, and Filene’s Basement.
Her dream wardrobe: Renée Zellweger’s,
because “her style is from a different era”
Her style advice for Boston: “Get out of
your own head and notice others.”

KATE LAFFOND
Graphic Design Major at RISD
We waited for her to exit the galleries because her
confidence was as cool as her simple look.
Kate wears a Forever 21 dress, vintage shoes
from Savers, and a Liz Claiborne bag from Marshalls.
She describes her style as sweet,
old-fashioned, and a little kooky.
Her favorite Boston shops: Bobby’s from
Boston and H&M
She’s looking forward to fall because it’s
time for boots, and she’s craving more “carnival-style” patterns.
Her best advice (immediately taken by our photographer): “If
you see something you love, buy it then or you’ll regret it!”
Her take on the connection between art and fashion: “I
want to decorate my life!”

DANIEL KAMINSKI
Artist
We stopped him because our eyes fixated on
his purple shirt.
Daniel was wearing handmade Coffey Men pants
(from Provincetown), Sanuk shoes, a shirt and vest from Target, a necklace of
his own design, and a belt found at a hostel in Vienna.
When it comes to color,
he loves earth tones and dark greens.
He says jewelry is one of his chosen mediums because “it’s
a practical application of my artistic inclination.”
He knows eco-chic is always in season, building
his wardrobe around handmade, second-hand, and socially conscious clothing.
