Finally, a book we can devour. Literally. Debuting in spring
of 2010, it’s a $1 million wine book.
Über-elite British publisher Kraken Opus set out to
create the ultimate benchmark-setting guide to the wine world. The result will
be The Wine Opus. In March, top sommeliers
will gather in London for an international wine summit, where a list of the
world’s best wineries will be whittled down to only the most Opus-worthy.
Just don’t dare call it a book. “This is not a book!” says Kraken
Opus CEO Karl Fowler. “There are thousands of books on wine … but only ever one wine
Opus!” Each will come with a six-bottle case of wine from all 100 wineries that
make the final cut. And only 100 Opuses will be published, with 25 already
reserved.
By whom, you ask? For starters, a “major” American rap star —
Fowler declines to name him. And then there are three orders from a hedge fund
that’s treating the tome like an investment on its balance sheet (Fowler
himself is a former derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs).
Have a spare million taking up too much room in your vault? You
can get in touch with the publisher at krakenopus.com. And then get yourself a
really, really big wheel of brie.
