The Lost Fingers at T.T. the Bear’s Place | October 1
If music was a menu, we like to think we’ve sampled most of
the buffet. But gypsy jazz just isn’t a genre that crosses our plate often, so
dig in to The Lost Fingers, a Quebec-based trio playing a
show at T.T. the Bear’s Place (10 Brookline Street,
Cambridge, 617.492.2327). Even if the rhythm guitars, acoustic approach, and
swing-style instrumentation of gypsy jazz sounds a bit too offbeat (no pun
intended), this show should be particularly palatable, as the Fingers play
music off their latest album, Lost in the 80s. The
album takes 12 sing-along favorites from the decade of great pop and bad
fashion and repackages them in gypsy-jazz style. Trust us: you haven’t heard
“Pump Up the Jam,” “Billie Jean,” “Straight Up,” “Tainted Love,” or any of
these other nostalgic gems until you’ve heard them with accordions. Doors open
at 8:30 p.m.; tickets are $8 in advance and $10 the day of via ticketweb.com.
