Avenue Q | November 17

This isn't your mom's Muppet show. The 2004 Tony winner for Best Musical, Avenue Q, might star a lot of similarly furry and fuzzy characters (alongside live actors, too), but we doubt that Big Bird would have bemoaned his yellow feathers in a song called "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist," that Oscar the Grouch would have brought everyone down with a tune titled "What Do You Do with a B.A. in English?" or that Ernie and Bert would have serenaded each other with "If You Were Gay." Still, these much racier rascals are just a well-intentioned gang trying to make it with big dreams and little cash on hard city streets that hardly resemble Sesame. Our inner child weeps; our grown-up selves relate. And laugh. The show plays at the Colonial Theatre (106 Boylston Street, Boston, 617.426.9366), and tickets ($42.50-$87.50) are available at broadwayacrossamerica.com/boston or 800.982.2787.
