We don't know whether it's the still-sluggish economy, Todd English's canceled wedding, or the fact that the president hasn't taken his shirt off in a while, but we're ready for a little something to lift our spirits. Preferably something sparkly. It seems we're not alone. Even our fave Japanese designer, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons (who's not exactly known for shiny-happy fashion), put some sequins into Spring 2010 ready-to-wear during Paris Fashion Week. And recently,
Orlane brought us
Crème Royale Eye Contour, a $300 eye cream laced with 24-carat gold.Apparently, gold's usefulness is not limited to adorning our wrists, fingers, ears, necks, and the occasional cake or ceiling. According to Orlane, 24-carat gold "significantly strengthens the skin's natural functions and enables it to better resist the visible signs of aging." Personally, we just like applying the light, sparkly cream with the teeny golden spoon that comes with it. And while we have yet to determine whether our eyes will be "sparkling with youth" as the company suggests, smoothing pearlescent cream under our peepers does seem to counter the day-after-champagne consequences of a jaunt to M Bar.The literature on Crème Royale Eye Contour points out that 24-carat gold is even used in some plastic-surgery procedures to help keep skin taut. So we'll hold off on the Botox a little longer and mine for Orlane gold at
Neiman Marcus (5 Copley Place, Boston, 617.536.3660) instead.
