Club Café (209 Columbus Avenue, Boston, 617.536.0966) has at last gotten a dance license from the city. Now in its 26th year, it’s one of Boston’s few remaining full-time gay bars — though that’s not to say you won’t find plenty of openly straight folks boogying down to Madonna, Whitney, and Lady Gaga inside. The space has just undergone a slew of renovations: a dance floor and updated lighting, sound, and DJ-booth set-ups have been added to the Café’s enlarged back room, essentially turning it into a new adjoining nightclub. They’ve also upsized and altered the middle lounge with a cool new main bar and second DJ booth. The revamped digs are getting put to good use at the recently launched
Revolution Thursdays. Starting at 7 p.m. is Video Revolution, which has
VJ Rompy showcasing music videos, movie clips, concert footage, and more on overhead screens, video-bar style. Then at 10 p.m., the night transforms into a Dance Revolution, with
DJ Aga spinning past, present, and future dance hits. The changes definitely breathe new life into this old favorite. Besides, every gay icon needs a facelift now and then. Right, Cher?
