FRIDAY, MARCH 13–SATURDAY, APRIL 4 Al Bundy and his clan look like the Cosbys compared to the family that schemes, deludes, denies, and stereotypes in The Pain and the Itch.
Company One offers the Boston premiere of Bruce Norris’s savage social
satire, which got its start at Chicago’s famed Steppenwolf Theatre. Set
during two different get-togethers, the play focuses on grudge-bearing
siblings and a condescending mom who reveal the vicious effects of
hypocrisy and self-interest. Soak it all in alcohol, add a dash of a
rodent problem, and witness how dysfunction can be as uncomfortable as
a hangover at the Boston Center for the Arts (539 Tremont
Street, Boston, 617.426.5000). For tickets ($30–$38; all tickets $18 on
Wednesday nights), visit www.bostontheaterscene.com or call
617.933.8600.
