President Obama’s whistle-stop tour notwithstanding, players are not exactly known for taking public transportation. So what slick new ride have the obscenely well-heeled been waiting for? That would be the new Mercedes E-Class, says Celso Rochez, marketing manager at Herb Chambers Mercedes.

The E-Class is the most popular Mercedes, and a redesign only comes around about once in seven years. That explains the hysteria — crazed bloggers, blurry pre-release photos, extrapolations based on European sightings. Regardless of the recession, some Bostonians are already clamoring for the car, which is a lot bolder and more aggressive than versions past (the grill almost looks like it’s snarling).

The E-Class arrives this summer, and general manager Jeff Davis at Chambers Motorcars of Boston (259 McGrath Highway, Somerville, 617.666.4100) will get you on the list. Sure, it’ll run you a cool 50–80 grand. But you do have to pay to play. (Or start saving now, and be ready in seven years when the next redesign rolls around.)

If you love the limelight, sometimes it’s best to provide your own. And why not make it flattering? A mere $1190 — because really, you’re worth it, dahling — gets you the Planet Lamp by Wanni Rondani.

Like you, she (lighting of this significance surely merits ship-like pronoun status) is long and lean. Her stem is satin nickel, but it’s her blown glass “shade” that steals the show: its orb shape and radiant glow inspire its out-of-this-world name, but the fixture actually looks like a more earthly phenomen on — Epcot. (Not that you’ve been.)

The Planet Lamp’s genius? Its prisms. Like Vaseline on a camera lens (then) or digital diffusion filters (now), the triangular cuts and thick glass have a subtle softening effect. It’s like instant candlelight — but much more fabulous.

So take your diva self over to Bliss (225 Newbury Street, Boston, 617.421.5544), and get into the spotlight where you belong.
