Consign for a cause

“As soon as Tra Tutti was a twinkle in my eye, I started looking for stuff,” says Ashley Judge, founder of socially conscious and fashion-forward consignment site Tra Tutti (www.tratutti.com). “It’s a real collection of a million different places — friends, family, stylists who were supportive of this idea, a lot of bargain shopping.”

Tra Tutti, loosely translated as “among all” in what South Shore native Judge admits is her very bad Italian, is just that — an online shop where there’s something for everyone, from Tory Burch and Juicy Couture to Rebecca Taylor and Chanel. A place for stylish women who want to look good while doing good, it offers “couture with a conscience,” as its slogan suggests.

The inspiration behind Tra Tutti came from Judge’s love for fashion and her desire to do more philanthropic work. But, as she says, she’s not an heiress. So while working in the non-profit sector, Judge found a way to fuse her passion for fashion with charity work while keeping an eco-conscious slant. “What I really love the most is fashion, but for as much as I love fashion, I love a great bargain. Like everybody these days, I’m concerned about the environment. [Tra Tutti] is an opportunity to marry all these things.”

Tra Tutti’s collection is hand-picked, well-edited, and rife with designer labels. Who says you can’t have Chloe in a crappy economy? Sure, some of the prices are a bit steep (think skirts for around $300), but you’re getting lots of bang for your recession-pummeled buck: consignment shopping is good for the environment, good for your conscience, and good for local charities. Plus, Judge gives consigners the market-comparable 40 percent of the cost of what they sell, keeps 40 percent, and donates the remaining 20 percent. So once you’ve thrown a slew of Kate Spade, D&G, and Diane von Furstenberg into your cyber shopping cart and are ready to check out, choose from a handful of local nonprofits — Dress for Success Boston, Rosie’s Place, the Home for Little Wanderers, MSPCA-Angell, and the Aids Action Committee of Massachusetts are on the current roster — and Tra Tutti will donate to the do-gooder group of your choice.

Tra Tutti offers style and substance. Now that’s speaking our language.
