Normally, the idea of thousands of bicyclists bobbing through Boston’s
streets would be the stuff of road-rage nightmares — imagine trying to
navigate downtown during that kind of swarm! But as long as we don’t
have to commute during it, we’re on board with
Hub on Wheels, a citywide bike ride of 10-, 30-, and 50-mile routes to benefit
Technology Goes Home,
a technology training program for underserved children and families in
Boston’s public schools. If you’re willing to burn your buns for a good
cause, bring your $55 registration fee (and hopefully some pledges from
supportive pedestrians) to
City Hall Plaza between 6:30 and
7:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 27. The ride starts at 8 a.m., and a
festival with food, music, and bike vendors will be waiting for you
when you complete your route. This year, the annual ride is preceded
for the first time with the Mayor’s Cup at 3 p.m. on Saturday, when
over 200 professional racers will cycle laps around City Hall Plaza to
compete for thousands of dollars. Spectators, we get to compete to for
the best vantage point from which to ogle really toned glutes in bike
shorts. Everyone’s a winner! To get full details and register online
(the fee is only $45 if you register ahead of time), visit
hubonwheels.org.
