Occupation: hip-hop artist and owner of Soul on a Beat Entertainment.
How often do you work out? I aim for four to five times a week, but I make sure I get in two times.
How do you stay in shape? I go to the gym, or I run, and do calisthenics and lift weights at home.
What inspires you to work out? I want to be healthy, keep my energy level up, and make sure that as I age my life gets better as opposed to worse.
How closely do you watch what you eat? As of recently, I watch pretty closely. I also gave up drinking alcohol, too.
What are your favorite foods? Raw fruits and vegetables, minor servings of chicken, fish, and I keep red meats to a minimum.
What indulgence food tempts you the most? Hot brownies with cold vanilla ice cream and fudge and whipped cream. I can’t turn it down.
What is your favorite exercise? I really like pull-ups, but that’s because it works all of the upper body if you’re doing them right. My favorite would probably be pushups with my sons on my back, and it motivates them to work out, too.
What is your least favorite exercise? Squats. Probably because I ignored my lower body the first half of my time working out, so I’m making up for lost time.
You obviously have a great body now, but did you ever go through an awkward stage? Yes, most of high school I was pretty scrawny with a beer belly, and it didn’t kick in until I was about 22 that the belly was from beer.
Have you seen a change in your body since you gave up drinking alcohol? It’s been about eight months now, and it actually feels like I’m building up more muscle mass.
How does being a performer affect the way you think about and treat your body? When I have the proper diet and I’m working out, my head is so clear and I’m so focused. Some people are drinking or smoking blunts to get in whatever mood it is they want to be in; me, I get my workout in, and that’s what gets me going.
What do you consider your best body part? In terms of my physical appearance, I’d say my biceps because they sort of always stay the same.
Any parts you’re insecure about? I always had a tough time with my abs, but I think I’m getting a hold on it now.
