Jodi Varraso
Age: 41.
Occupation: server at Pho Republique.
How often do you work out? I work out every other day at Healthworks Fitness.
How do you stay in shape? I just do a lot of the Nautilus machines; I like to do heavy weights. I go on the Stairmaster for about 20 minutes on the off days. And I run around the restaurant all the time.
What inspires you to work out? I just like to feel healthy and stay in shape, and I like to feel strong.
How closely do you watch what you eat? I don’t. I eat anything, whenever I want. I eat Pho Republique food every day of my life. But I don’t eat big portions of anything, and I eat only when I’m hungry.
What indulgence food tempts you the most? Snickers icecream bars. My parents keep boxes and boxes of them in their fridge.
What is your favorite exercise? I really love working on my arms. I think that’s because I see the most results in my arms more than anywhere else.
What is your least favorite exercise? There’s a leg machine where you work your quads, and I always dread that the most. It never is easy. I always tell the girls I work with that once you hit 30, you really have to work out or it’s going to show!
You obviously have a great body now, but did you ever go through an awkward stage? Being a girl, looking in the mirror I don’t see what other people see. For years I didn’t eat well. Then I learned that it was better to eat a little and then work out. So maybe [my awkward stage] is all the time.
You have some fantastic tattoos; any stories behind them? Most of my tattoos are just things that I love — I love flowers and jewels. I like to adorn my body, and I’ve always loved to decorate; it just makes me happy.
What do you consider your best body part? I love that [my body] is all in proportion, and I’m grateful that I’m aging gracefully. It’s maintaining its youth pretty well.
Any parts you’re insecure about? My stomach; it’s not as flat as it used to be.
If you could have someone else’s body for a day, whose would it be? The first person that comes to mind is Sarah Jessica Parker. She’s really toned, and she’s thin, but she’s not too thin. Honestly, I think Pam Anderson kicks ass, too. She’s my age and looks great. If you put love, care, and energy into your body, that’s beautiful.
