Erin Gates, interior stylist
With success in the blogosphere writing ElementsofStyleBlog.com and a flurry of local articles lauding both her fashion sense and design work, interior stylist Erin Gates is on the fast track to becoming Boston’s next design deity. Tall, gorgeous, and just 29, Gates is fielding phone calls to redecorate area condos and summer homes faster than you can say “Jonathan Adler, Kelly Wearstler.” And say those names she does, as they are two to whom Gates looks for inspiration. Following stints in art sales and event planning, not to mention a gig as assistant to interior designer Dennis Duffy, Gates has found her niche: creating impeccable rooms no matter what her client’s budget. Scouting off-price stores and big box chains, as well as estate sales and eBay auctions, Gates is a welcome relief in an industry not known for restraint. Like any interiordesign insider, she’s no stranger to the showrooms, but unlike the divas, she’s willing to work with her clients. “I am very flexible,” she says. “If somebody has furniture they want to keep for sentimental or financial reasons, I work to make their house the best version I can, within their budget and taste. It’s the stories of such pieces that make a space interesting.”
