RADIO DAYS
As one of the goofball DJs on WFNX’s morning show The Sandbox, Special Ed is up at 4 a.m. each weekday to entertain his listeners. But that doesn’t stop him from hitting the town several nights a week. “You can always tell when I’ve been out the night before a show,” he says. “My voice is about 10 times deeper.” He took some time during his recent trip to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California to tell us where he goes on his nights off.
@ 6:15 p.m.: If we’re going out for dinner before a big night out, we’ll hit Grill 23 for a nice meal to load up on some meat. If everyone’s in the mood, I’ll take in a good bottle of red. Then again, I might just rock the straight beer.
@ 7:30 p.m.: Hopefully there’s a show to check out. I like going to the Orpheum because I’m old and I don’t like when people slam dance into me. Then again, I love seeing a great band at an awful venue, too. We’ll probably grab a drink near the venue. We’re not really picky.
@ 9:45 p.m.: By now, the show headliner is there. We may be doing an interview with the band backstage or just hanging out having a beer. Are you picking up the theme? We like to drink.
@ midnight: We’re hitting Phoenix Landing to get it on. That bar is packed for a reason.
@ 2 a.m.: I’m coughing out horribly bad lines by now, trying to get someone to drive me home. Once the bar shuts down, I’ve got nowhere to go, so I’m on my way home to take care of the dog.
