We hate to remind you, especially now that the weather is finally warm, but another fleeting New England summer will soon be coming to an end. If you need some sunny memories to keep you warm afterwards, we suggest compiling a summer soundtrack that captures the mood and music of the season – and we know just where to start. Last month, The Boston Phoenix declared the Best New Bands in America, and called out 50 bands from 50 states that should be making your summer rock, if they’re not already. If you’ve already checked it out, revisit some of the states you missed the first time (Montana, Wyoming, and other middle-child states, we feel your pain). If you were too busy mourning the death of Michael, Farrah, and all our other childhood idols (and who can blame you?), here’s a chance to take a glance with new, dry eyes. Acts range from homegrown heroes (Massachusetts’s Magic Magic) to the islands of Hawaii (III Valley), from sea to shining freaking sea and everywhere in between, and you can check out the full list here. Hurry up, and you’ll still have time to end your summer with a cross-country road trip – with the perfect mix of music along for the ride.
