Remember Super Friends, that colorful cartoon in which a posse of caped superheroes combined their powers to save the world from one calamity or another? Well this Sunday, September 27, at the Back Bay location of Sel de la Terre (774 Boylston Street, Boston, 617.266.8800), a league of super foodies will gather to rally around a vitally important cause: defeating childhood hunger. These culinary crusaders get started at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception featuring drinks by beloved local mixologists Kevin Martin (Eastern Standard) and Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli (Craigie on Main). Then guests will have the opportunity to sink their teeth into a seven-course, wine-paired meal prepared by seven star chefs: Dante de Magistris (Dante and Il Casale), Will Gilson (Garden at the Cellar), Colin Lynch (Barbara Lynch Gruppo), Jamie Bissonnette (Toro and Coppa), Anthony Susi (Sage), Jiho Kim (L’Espalier), and host Louis DiBiccari (Sel de la Terre). Although the dinner coincides with the one-year anniversary of this latest Sel de la Terre location, we’re most excited to support the work of Share Our Strength, a national non-profit working to eradicate childhood hunger. The dinner’s proceeds benefit the non-profit, so tickets aren’t cheap: you’ll need to make pre-paid reservations ($125 for general seating, $250 for limited chef’s table seating) by calling Sel de la Terre at the number above. But to us die-hard epicures, scrimping for the weekend seems worth it for a chance to join the culinary crème de la crème and be a hero for hunger.
