If you’re anything like us, the summer left you sick to death of alien blockbusters, splashy action flicks, and the endless stream of mindless sequels. (And if you, too, were dragged to see Transformers, you may have gotten a sufficient Megan Fox fix for, oh, the next few lifetimes.) Well, Michael Bay be damned: this past weekend, the Stuart Street Playhouse (200 Stuart Street, Boston, 617.426.4499) reopened for its first film showing in 10 years. Thank your movie gods, as this theater won’t be playing The Fast and the Furious XIV: Stuck in Fenway Traffic. The Playhouse is relaunching with a decidedly art-house bent — think more Buñuel and less Bruckheimer — with a screening of Cédric Klapisch’s Paris, featuring Inglourious Basterds’ magically sexy Mélanie Laurent. And since the 435-seat theatre is tucked conveniently in the Theater District, you will no longer have to drag your poor, art-starved self to Kendall or Coolidge for a dose of existential ennui. Now go forth and get your indie on. Showtimes are listed at stuartstreetplayhouse.com.
