In general, high-school upperclassmen don't bestow many gifts on the lowly freshmen. If they do, it's usually in the form of a "first": a first beer (if you're lucky), a first beating (if you're unlucky), or a first ... well, you know (if you get lucky). So for the inaugural Class of 2009 Tour, three established rock bands are gifting some new students to the School of Rock with their first big break: a chance to shine as the opening act for headliners Saving Abel ([pictured] "Addicted"), Red ("Death of Me"), and Pop Evil ("Hero"). Oklahoma-based band Taddy Porter was the unsigned act deemed the worthy to fill the role of "freshmen" for the tour, which has plans to restage annually. Join the big bands on campus this Wednesday at House of Blues (15 Lansdowne Street, Boston, 888.693.2583). Doors are at 6 p.m., and you can snag tickets ($20 and $25) via ticketmaster.com.
